Science, tips, tools and resources to understand your body and nervous system

Hello beautiful souls,

This blog is going to discuss how trauma can influence our relationship with change and stability…. a very juicy and highly intuitive topic (because everyone is different and deep down needs different things + important to realise so much of our decisions are subconscious patterns!). This is why its important to be aware of our patterns + journal about our future self and our dream life constantly, this helps us become aware of patterns and slowly become more and more connected with the true versions of who we are and the life we want….

For many of us who have experienced trauma, the need for constant change can become a coping mechanism. We find solace in newness, whether that’s shifting career paths, seeking new relationships, or constantly chasing the next adventure. It feels like a way to escape the emotional turbulence within and regain a sense of control. I personally have been there, packing up and starting over countless times, believing that the next change would bring peace. Heck, sometimes I still wonder if I’m doing that. But the difference now is I know what I want my dream life looks like, and if a decision doesnt quite align after I made it, I use it as a lesson, growth and I reconnect with decisions that align with my highest self from there (DO NOT beat yourself up about this – life is too short my friends!)

However, there’s a flip side—trauma can also keep us stuck, paralysed by fear of moving forward. We can become so scared of the unknown that we stay in situations that no longer serve us, afraid to take risks or embrace aligned opportunities. This can include jobs, relationships, living situations, etc etc. If this is you, go watch this video: LETTING GO VIDEO

The challenge is finding balance. True healing comes when we begin to differentiate between change driven by fear and distraction, and change that is aligned with our true selves and the life we dream of for ourselves. In my own journey, I’ve found stability not in avoiding change, but in creating daily practices and consistently working through my own healing. Now, the decisions I make are guided by intuition and clarity, rather than a need to run from discomfort. I take time to decide things (big decisions often take me 6 months to make now).

Of course an essential part of this journey is also:

  1. Learning how to create safety and a connection with your body again (which many who have experienced trauma do not have anymore or never had!)
  2. Processing trauma with therapies that are made for trauma and have awareness of how the how trauma is stored within the body and the nervous system (eg. somatic therapy, EMDR and for childhood trauma also IFS).
  3. Making lifestyle (health, habit and routines) that support physiological recovery of trauma and mental health – because trauma has a HUGE impact of our body, organs, hormones and its essential to support and make those changes

So how can you balance feeling stuck or needing constant newness or distraction?

Recap and Takeaways:

  • Trauma’s Influence on Change: Trauma often drives a need for constant change, which can become a way to avoid emotional pain and maintain a sense of control.
  • Fear of Forward Movement: On the other hand, trauma can also keep us stuck, fearful of the unknown and resistant to aligned changes.
  • Finding Balance: The key is recognising when change is an escape and when it’s a necessary, taking intuitive steps forward towards your dream life. Stability comes from working through trauma and making decisions from a place of clarity, rather than avoidance.
