Guess what? working on your trauma is not just for you. Not just because of your dreams, happiness, peace, contentment, joy, alignment. Though that is a part of it for sure…. Many peoples symptoms of trauma go unnoticed but have a profound influence on individuals and society as a whole. (If you haven’t read my emails and blog post about what trauma really is – no its not just PTSD). It’s easy to assume that trauma is a personal matter, its effects extend FAR beyond the individual who experiences it. I believe it’s essential to shed light on how trauma affects everyone, as it plays a significant role in shaping our communities and our world. Individual Impact:
- Mental Health: Trauma can lead to various mental health issues that impact your quality of life, relationships, work, and overall well-being.
- Physical Health: Trauma can also have a substantial impact on physical health. Studies have shown a strong correlation between trauma and chronic illnesses, including heart disease, diabetes, and autoimmune disorders. STRESS is the NUMBER 1 cause of health issues in the western world.
- Behavioural Patterns: Trauma can influence a person’s behaviour, often leading to self-destructive coping mechanisms such as addiction, self-harm, or risky behaviors. These patterns can affect not only the individual but also their loved ones.
Interpersonal Relationships:
- Family Dynamics: Trauma can strain family relationships. A traumatised individual may struggle to communicate, trust, or connect with their loved ones, resulting in fractured families and generations of emotional scars.
- Friendships: Trauma can impact friendships, making it challenging for an individual to maintain healthy social connections. The isolation that often accompanies trauma can create a ripple effect, affecting not only the traumatized individual but also their friends.
- Workplace: Trauma can affect an individual’s performance at work, leading to absenteeism, decreased productivity, and strained coworker relationships. The workplace becomes a microcosm of how trauma’s impact extends beyond the individual.
Community and Society:
- Crime and Violence: High levels of trauma within a community can contribute to increased crime rates and violence. Trauma can perpetuate a cycle of aggression, substance abuse, and criminal activity, affecting entire neighbourhoods and cities.
- Social Services: Trauma places a significant burden on social services, such as healthcare, therapy, and child welfare agencies. The costs of treating trauma-related issues can strain public resources.
- Education: Trauma affects students’ ability to learn and concentrate, which can lead to decreased educational attainment and perpetuate cycles of poverty.
- Societal Resilience: A society with high levels of unaddressed trauma may be less resilient in the face of crises and disasters, as its members may struggle to cope with additional stressors.
Its clear that trauma’s impact reaches far and wide, touching every aspect of our lives. Dont underestimate the impact on working on YOU. By recognizing the interconnectedness of trauma and its effects on individuals, relationships, and society, the step to work on your own trauma is like shining the light for others, you inspire more people you know by focusing on YOU, your growth and alignment. Through healing your trauma. And yes its likely, some unhealed wounds of others many be triggered in that and try to bring you back down but just realise where that comes from and don’t take it personally. Haven’t done somatic therapy before?
